Install VLC 0.9.2 in Ubuntu

A major new version of the VLC media player has been released. 0.9.2 adds a new Qt4 user interface, fullscreen controls, improved playlists, album art support, and new file format support. See the VLC wiki page for all the changes.
It’s past the feature-freeze for Ubuntu 8.10, but an exception may be made for this new version of VLC to get included. If you want to try out the new VLC now, there are unofficial packages available for Ubuntu.

First remove old the old version of VLC to prevent a conflict during the upgrade. Remove the package vlc either in Synaptic or in the terminal:
