Skype under Linux and Ubuntu is quite poor, lagging in development in comparison to the 32bit Windows XP version. However there has been a 32-bit Linux versions of Skype available for quite some time that is working, but there hasnt been any version for 64bit Linux available. However I have now found a link to a official version on the Skype forum that is packaged for 64-bit Linux systems (not a proper 64-bit build). I have installed it and can confirm that it works! I couldnt use Pulse for sound in, so I use ATI.
